How to Start an OSRS League (Beginner’s Guide)

Are you new to Old School RuneScape leagues and feeling a bit overwhelmed? Don’t worry, this beginner’s guide will walk you through the basics of how leagues work and get you ready to dive in.

What is an OSRS League?

  • A league is a temporary game mode that runs for a limited time, usually around 2 months
  • Leagues have accelerated XP rates (5-16x) and increased drop rates (2-5x) compared to the main game
  • You create a new account in a separate league world and can’t use your main game account
  • There are unique rules, region unlocks, and powerful relics in each league

League Regions

  • Each league has a map divided into regions that you unlock by completing tasks
  • Everyone starts with access to 2 free regions (e.g. Misthalin and Karamja in Leagues III)
  • Unlock additional regions of your choice by completing easy, medium and hard tasks
  • Plan ahead which regions you want to focus on based on content and relics available

Relics

  • Relics are powerful unlockable buffs and perks that enhance your league experience
  • Earn league points by completing tasks to unlock relics in 8 tiers of power
  • Relic choices are permanent so read carefully and plan ahead
  • Example relics: Endless Harvest, Fluid Strikes, Last Recall, Botanist, Unnatural Selection

Tasks & Points

  • Every league has a new set of tasks in Easy, Medium, Hard, Elite and Master tiers
  • Completing tasks earns you league points; harder tasks are worth more points
  • A certain number of tasks in a region are required to unlock that region
  • League points are used to unlock relics which power up your character

Sage Advice

  • Pick 2 regions/bosses you’re comfortable with and 1 you want to learn at the start
  • Aim to unlock Kandarin, Asgarnia or Fremennik first; save Morytania and Tirannwn for later
  • Don’t stress about the “perfect” relic choices – pick what sounds fun and useful to you!
  • You need cash to get your account going. Some good early money-makers:
    • Thieving: Ardy knights, HAM storerooms
    • Agility pyramid
    • Wilderness slayer/bosses
    • Wintertodt
  • Use the league wiki and plugin to track your progress and find tasks you’ve missed

By understanding the core league mechanics – regions, relics, tasks and points – you’ll be well prepared to start your league journey. Don’t be afraid to try new things, challenge yourself, and most importantly have fun! With some planning and helpful tools like the wiki, you’ll be racking up tasks and relics in no time. See you in Gielinor!
